I'd be careful about this. In my old job in banking, we thought nobody really looked at our expense reports. Then one of our analysts got fired for expensing dinner too early. I would ask someone to clarify the rules, otherwise I don't think it's worth the risk.
D15, enjoy that 4 day old chicken and wilted vegetables. Don't worry, that rancid taste is completely harmless as long as it was cooked to 165 deg.
Oh... We get per diems... 😒☹️
I get dinner in my departure airport and expense since I arrive home after 9. Don't expense if I get something in my home city
You must be new here...
Yes u should but we get per diem :-(
If it's the same day, I expense it. Even if I land at 5pm.
Absolutely. If I'm landing around or past dinner, and there wouldn't be a plausible way for me to go to the grocery store and cook by a reasonable time, why wouldn't we? Now, if I were landing at 2 or 3pm, I probably wouldn't, but anything past 6 or 7? Absolutely.
I'm sorry I fail to believe that you've seen 5 people get axed for violating the expense policy in one year.
Your policies are whack. All that matters is how your unique account runs things not the firm
Occasionally
I have been expensing my Friday food as well for pas 2 years. I only pay for my meals on Saturday ( which sucks)
Better ask for forgiveness than permission; that's the rule of thumb
You are permitted to expense it. If you have concerns just confirm with your team
PwC friends, can we do this? Heard it's against firm policy to expense when we're already home
I did it all the time until a colleague said it was questionable. I checked the policy and it says we can expense meals on travel days. It was pretty clearly within policy. For that matter, meals on Tuesday and Wednesday are more questionable, since those are not "travel" days (shows how policy is open for interpretation).
They tell us to charge flight time to ORT so yeah, I will expense dinner. The dinner is part of the travel because flying home late prevents me from buying groceries or cooking for myself. Also, at our charge rate, the dinner looks like nothing to a whole week of work
D15 eats strictly hungry man's
I literally haven't even heard of it ever happening at K. Not even once, like ever.
My rule of thumb is if I have to buy food to eat I expense it. Because I don't keep a lot of groceries when I travel, I usually end up expensing dinner on Thursday.
What annoys me more is that I am expecting expected to make breakfast at 4 am on Monday. EY's policy doesn't allow expensing Monday morning breakfast even if you are taking a 6 am flight and your only option is coffee and oatmeal at LGA.
@D1 that's my problem - I could get something at JFK after I land but most places are closed or super unhealthy.
