Question: I just got hired as a finance manager at an organization. They have had a couple rocky years since COVID and all the turnover. We are about to submit late financial statements from years I didn’t work there and I know there will most likely be audit findings. What repercussions could happen to me as the finance manager if we get bad audit findings from years I didn’t work there for? Should I leave?

It really shouldn't fall on you personally if there are serious errors from years when you weren't there. Try to document all of your work, and stay transparent of course. You can have a big impact in cleaning things up for the future if you stick it out, I don't think you should worry about the blame being cast on you at all.

As long as you're not falsifying anything, you should be fine. I think most people only get in trouble when they are reporting incorrect information or knowingly lying. If you're not doing that, you should be good.

Like other have said document what you've done and be honest in your work then you should be fine.

Nothing. It wasn't under your oversight

Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?

I have worked in municipal government for almost 17 years. I love what I do as an Inspector, but the environment is toxic, and administration horrible. I have an opportunity to go into the private sector side, as well a second interview for another municipality doing same job. Private sector job will pay 35,000 more but will be 3 hrs away my husband is in law enforcement and can’t leave due to his position. Concerns are: private sector and when recession hits, it’s construction, away from hubby

I feel under qualified at work but I also don’t know how much of it is in my head or in reality. I head a team and they seem to be happy… but I’m also personally not satisfied what we’re delivering is enough… so I have this weird mixed feeling of the stuff we’re doing not really being that stretching, but at the same time I feel out of my depth. I really don’t know what to do and whether to hold on in the hope I’ll learn something or go back to a lower grade and a more comfortable life.

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

If you're a government HR strategy, I/O psych, talent management, organizational design/development professional or consultant, we need you!

Have you heard of OPM's team of strategic HR consultants? Within OPM Human Resources Solutions' HR strategy, there are strategic consultants who operate on a reimbursable basis, similar to a private sector consulting agency.

We have current, developing, and future vacancies for human capital strategists and consultants at the GS-12/13/14/15 levels!

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Tried researching this for hours but only found info on applying to other agencies.
