I’m 99% digital. I run my firm on Apple products, and I use Filevine firmwide; this way, I always have two digital copies of everything in case one goes down. I also scan all mail that comes into our office onto iCloud & Filevine and then just store them in a folder; I only do this just as a last resort in case I can’t access anything digitally.
Other than that, the only thing that I haven’t made a conscious decision to turn digitally is writing checks out of my IOLTA account. This is only because quickbooks won’t let me link both my checking & IOLTA account on their web services and I’ve just been too lazy to sign up a new account.
All paper in my office gets scanned to PDF, and then I destroy the paper. Two exceptions:
1) Local electronic filing rules require me to retain clients’ original ink “wet signatures” for 2 years after the case is closed.
2) My representation agreements contain a provision allowing me to scan and destroy documents provided to me by the client. But if the client requests that I give them back the originals, I’ll do it.
Fully paperless, unless required to keep originals.
