Noem was cut off in her answer. She was describing what Trump was doing and was interrupted in the middle of her statement as she was moving to say a phrase of how removing habeus corpus would affect the people who would be deported.
This is just the senator playing gotcha with her question time and putting on a show. Both sides do this all of the time to play to their bases. Nothing that happens in a senate hearing is newsworthy.
You asked, and I’m giving you my answer: I didn’t think that her doing it was a big deal. I live in the country and have had animals all of my life. There are hard truths and circumstances that must be dealt with that urban folks just can’t relate to. It’s not pretty, it’s not fun, and I can promise you from personal experience that living with that decision bothers her far more than it bothers you.
Here’s where the situation gets more interesting to me: why did she include it in her book?
I can only see two possibilities:
1) She’s either incredibly stupid, and didn’t know that many people would find it offensive
I think that she had no good reason to include it in her bio though.
2) As a governor and media figure for a significant period of time leading up to that book, she knew full well that she would have a strong and negative reaction to the anecdote. So she included it on purpose.
I think the answer has to be possibility 2. So why?
And the only thing that I can come up with is that she did not want to be considered for the VP spot in the Trump administration. I cannot think of any other reason. Her book was released at just the right time to make sure that she would be taken off of any list of possible VPs for Trump.
It's bizarre and honestly sad to see how the country is dragged down by these characters. Knowing about habeas corpus used to be something you learned in middle school. The idea that an adult with a job, especially that job, couldn't define it is simply appalling. But these people don't want a functioning government, they want a reality show that appeals to their bigotry. And they certainly have that.

She didn’t make a ‘mistake’. She did not know! She again shows the level of incompetence of this administration.
If the puppy killer wants the power that comes with deporting ppl, you’re damn right she should know what habeas corpus is. She doesn’t know and looks like a fool. Supreme Court agrees. Now we’ll see if SCOTUS does anything bc they continually break the law.
Apparently they disregard the fact that we have a constitution. 🙄

I’m going to clarify for the sake of accuracy, not argument. Kilmar Abrego-García was deported due to an acknowledged error by U.S. officials. There is no credible evidence that he is a member of MS-13. What we do know is that he was sent to one of the most brutal prisons in the world despite no criminal conviction here. That is not due process—it is a miscarriage of justice.
I encourage us all, as educators, to model civil discourse grounded in fact. I won’t continue this thread, but I hope others will seek out reliable sources before repeating talking points that harm vulnerable children and families.
Facts are not always appreciated. It's a sad reality about our country right now. Just look at X (protrump site) until musk and trump got into it. Now, I read...x is no longer spinning everything in Trumps favor.
