Received an interview opportunity for IBM ’s New Grad Associate Program next week. Can anyone give me advice and guidance on how to prepare for the interviews, what qualities interviewers will be looking for, etc.?

Main qualities are being coachable, charisma and that you have decent communicative skills. If you have to do a case study, ensure all boxes are checked and you’ve answered all questions. Make sure there is nothing on the powerpoint that you can’t explain.

Overall, just be yourself and be likable! The interviewers are not there to drill you about technical things, but just trying to see how you respond in certain situations. Take time to answer thoughtfully and breathe.

Keep a water bottle with you so if you get stuck, stop, take a drink to collect your thoughts and continue.

Good luck!!

Be coachable and eager to learn. No one expects you to have all the answers right out of school. Answer questions using the CAR method (context, action taken, results). You’re guaranteed to be asked the what are your biggest strengths/weaknesses question. Be sure to have an answer ready for this and for weakness make sure it’s something that you can say that you’re aware that X represents an opportunity area for you and because you’re aware of this you actively take Y steps to address this area so it doesn’t negatively impact your work. Good luck!

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!

Orally accepted a job offer that I’m excited about, but have another interview this week for a different job. I didn’t realize the first offer would come so quickly! Should I cancel the interview this week or go through with it? Small legal community- people talk.

Got a message from a Bain recruiter looking for experienced hires to start q1. I'm very interested but cautious because they're looking for a speedy process...feels a little rushed. Anything to be concerned about that I don't know? Like could this just be an attempt to get huge app volume or can I assume there's actually a chance if they reached out? I'm at a boutique in a niche industry, so just unsure of what would have drawn him to my profile.

If I applied to a company and sent a message to the recruiter on LinkedIn, but they haven’t accepted my connection request or responded to my message, should I follow up with an email a week later? Trying to find the line between enthusiastic and being a weirdo.

I think another offer might be coming soon but I really want a shot at this job.

Helo everyone, I had an interview scheduled with Cognizant on last week of Jan 2022 but due to technical error in Verification code I couldn't join interview lobby. I reported the same to the HR and I was told the interview will be rescheduled. Now there's no update from the HR. Could you please guide me how can I proceed or any email address to which I can inform to take the rescheduling process further.

Thanks in advance

Had an interview for an associate position at Citi. Interviewee was based in London and I’m in NYC. The only interview time that worked was 6am. I was barely functioning and feel like I truly messed up in my answers because I couldn’t not think clearly. I have another with the head of the division next week again at 6am (pre determined before this interview). It was also hard because the division’s core work is private enough that there was not much prep I could do beforehand. Tips?

Round or exact numbers on banners/LPs? I was curious about this since in negotiations for example or pricing it's better to have the exact number. But if you have a case study, for example, is it better to say "Client X increased their revenue to 1,000,000 ARR" instead of "Client X increased their revenue to 987,500 ARR" ? Anyone has seen any impact on conversion rates?

Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? Or should i just try to find a job with a salary that covers a nanny salary and accept that i will never see my son on weekdays (which would be sad for both of us)? TIA!

Ideas please:

I’m inheriting a “team” of siloed strong individual developers who are on different work streams and are very jaded and struggling with motivation. Most are contractors. They have legit gripes about the client, but I won’t be able to solve those without getting cross-discussions going with knowledge-sharing across our “team“. Any suggestions for remote team-building that won’t just be shrugged off with cynicism, or worse, ignored?

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. For the NJ folks who work in NYC - my potential new employer has offices in both NJ and NYC. The NJ office is a 1.5 hour drive vs. NYC ~40 min commute via train. Still very much hybrid work arrangement. Given the option, which office would you prefer to be based out of and why? Mostly asking from a tax perspective. While I believe it’ll even out when filing, I’d be paying state tax in both states throughout the year, right?
