Is the city safe? My vote would be suburbs.......
Holy cow this bowl is becoming high comedy at this point.
I have not taken lessons there, but Harborside has an excellent practice facility
Buffalo Grove Golf Course imo. 3 pros with great experience, roughly 50$ / 40 minute lesson.
I did a lot of price shopping around. Some of the city places are almost 120-150$ for the same time frame!
Harborside is great
No recommendations on specific instructors, but would recommend if you're learning to play find a place with an outdoor range/practice facility as it gives you a better visualisation of what a good/bad shot looks like without having to try and interpret tons of extra data you get with a simulator.
Hitting indoors into a simulator is great for established golfers that are trying to tweak things and want data to help take it to the next level. I think simulators have come a long way, but I don't find that it always translates to how I perform on the range or course. To me it's a good way to practice/keep muscle memory of how to hit a ball.
As far as favorite facilities, I used to visit Deerfield Golf Course to practice as they had grass tees instead of artificial turf mats on the range. Also had a great short game area so that you could work on 40-50 yard approaches and bunker play. I never used the teaching pros here, but they had 3-4 teachers on staff a few years back.
Harborside! Head pro is a guy named Lane and both my husband and I have seen him for lessons. He's great and the range there is grass with a huge area for short game practice as well.
