“Tone policing is defined as "a conversational tactic that dismisses the ideas being communicated when they are perceived to be delivered in an angry, frustrated, sad, fearful, or otherwise emotionally charged manner." Managers striving to create a workplace based on equity and inclusion must understand how tone policing silences members of marginalized groups and allows discrimination to persist.” https://www-businessinsider-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.businessinsider.com/how-to-identify-and-help-stop-tone-policing-in-workplace-2020-8?amp

I’d look at the neighborhoods on the blue line - wicker park, bucktown, Logan square, Humboldt park. Very Chicago neighborhood vibes with good restaurants in the area. Bars are there too but old town to me screams 22 yo frat bros.
IMO, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, and Old Town have a mix of young families and recent grads and all have a big dive bar scene with the recent grads. Old Town isn’t really known for restaurants, it’s more like let’s eat and pregame at a restaurant and then go out (exceptions of course, topo gigio is a classic)
Pro
Old town
Old town is a good rec, puts you close to river north and the division bars. Maybe not the best for restaurants. But has great public transports. If your prioritize restaurants, west loop is a good choice.
The west neighborhoods sounds good too, like wicker park.
Lakeshore East (aka New Eastside). Very easy access to the lake
This is by far my least favorite area of the city in terms of neighborhoods to live in. I would not recommend. Hard to get anywhere else, you’re near the lake but not the fun areas of the lake. You’re closest to the loop for food and shopping where everything is closed at 3 pm and on weekends. No one wants you to host things because this neighborhood is impossible to get to without an uber, and even then the experienced Ubers get annoyed at taking you there, the novices get lost in lower wacker.
30M who lives in Old Town. Some of the bars skew younger but unless you’re living above one you don’t really notice. Usually I’m taking my dog for her last walk 9-10p on weekends as people are starting to go out. I’m then headed to bed.
Wells St is very bar heavy but there are pockets of quiet. Lake is a quick walk. Greenery is okay but LP definitely better for that. Old Town has more high rises / full amenity buildings though compared to LP.
If you want to be close to the lake, Park west or Lakeview East. That’s a great scene area 28 YO range. West loop has the best restaurants for sure, but not a great place for walking. I think you’d be very happy around Barry, Surf, Wellington, etc.
Is lake view east bar heavy? I’m trying to avoid the young 22 heavy drinking culture like wrigley.
Do you recommend Lincoln park as the best spot to do that?
