Go to the best rated running shoe store (not a general sporting goods store), and ask to get fitted. They’ll set you up based on your foot structure (and sometimes gait analysis, depending on store)
Best answer. Don't cheapen out for the first pair, get your gait analysis done

Brooks ghosts are what my serious marathoner partner wears
Crazy, never heard of them.
I'm 6'3 / 215ish so I needed something with more cushion than most. I went with Asics Gel Nymbus 27s and am very happy with them so far (about 1.5 months in).
I found Claude, ChatGPT, etc. can give you a good shortlist based on your pace, goals, weight, etc. and you can go try these on at your local store.
Fleet Feet is also something to consider - they'll give you a better idea of whether you need shoes for overpronation, etc.
Good luck in your half marathon!
The 27’s were on a pretty big sale when I picked them up in January - think the new model came out. Can always snag a deal!
Congrats on your next half marathon! Find a running store near you and get properly fitted by their staff. If you’re in the Atlanta metro, Big Peach Running is good. Fleet Feet has several locations around the country, too.
Don’t belittle a 12 min/pace. I’ve finished over 20 half marathons using the run/walk/run, Jeff Galloway method, since 2009. My paces have ranged between 14 min/mile through 10 min/mile. Finish the race injury free!
Depends on your gait. The wrong shoes can give you shin splints and other random injuries.
Brooks are my go to shoe. I have flat feet so these models are good for pronators: Beast, Addiction & Dyad (phased out).
Vomero 18s on sale right now for 60 quid at sports direct.
Brooks & HOKA are go-to's for running. Def on the higher end and you should absolutely not cheap out on running shoes.
Thank all! I went to Famous Footwear and got fitted. Bought ASICS Gel Venture 10 extra wide. That’s what fit best, apparently.
Stores like that won’t have Brooks or HOKA but that’s ok. I am not a pro.
