Salary check please. Work in a small plaintiff class action litigation firm in a HCOL area specializing in antitrust and consumer protection. Strict 1800 billable hour requirement and my salary is 155k. However, I just found out I am being billed at $650/hour. Considering the conventional 1/3 method or there about, shouldn’t my salary be closer to $250-350k? Or my billable requirement should be closer to 1200? Am I crazy?

Has anyone received equity as contingency comp? I have a potential client with a founders dispute. He doesn’t have cash, and the other founder ripped him off and is now running the company. How do you handle billing disputes? Already feel like we’re a steal compared to other firms, but it’s the pits when clients kvetch about the bill after working hard on their matters. For five figure disputes, anyone recommend collections? Don’t really want to institute retainers, especially since it doesn’t seem common for our practice area.

How normal is it to be pulled off a trial team because you tell your boss you are moving after trial? I have a trial coming up first week of Oct. This case has been my baby, and I’m going to try it with my boss. He then gives my trial witnesses to another attorney, but is still going to make me do grunt work. Is he unreasonable or am I?
