Senior asked if I was available for more work and I strictly told them I have zero availability. I’ve been working till midnight for the last 3 weeks. That person proceeds to tell me to work on a task in the meantime. Like bruh. Why do people not respect other people’s availability? Why ask in the first place if you’re going to give me work anyways? Anyone who ropes me into their engagement I kindly tell them I don’t have time. My utilization is already at 130%. Kindly please fuck off

Just don’t do the extra work

Ask them what they don’t want done instead of adding more. Or once they add more send a follow up email offering an updated prioritization with an estimate of when they can have the work completed.

or maybe he thinks you are the next in pipeline

For promotion? I have been strung along for a whole year dangling a promotion in my face the first year of my job. I didn’t get it and was told I did “everything right” but people don’t get promoted in their first year. They just use whatever they can to get you to work the most amount of hours, you don’t need to work 60+ hours to show your value. You need to make good relationships, do great work, and continue to learn. The amount you work should not be the deciding factor

like

Ask them to help you prioritize your current pipeline of work and ask which can be pushed back to meet the most important deadlines. Delegate as much as possible: leverage offshore teams to pull the data for you, quickly review the data and highlight key parts and ask an expert in your office if they see the same thing (they will collect additional insights and take some off your plate). I do whatever I can to slim down my workload by leveraging anyone who appears to have bandwidth.

I think counseling can help you. I met mine in my office. After talking to the counsellor Im able to work for 15-16hrs straight. Its been a boon. Im able to complete more and more projects. I recently got an appreciation award for doing 100 hrs per week. It was so satisfying after the hard work I put in.

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. Wants me to figure it all out despite cases being from different areas of law.

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

My coworker brought a puppy to work, who bit my hand. I ended up losing my temper and yelling at them. Now everyone is mad at me for blowing up at work, even though this is something I shouldn't have had to deal with in the first place!

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

How do you work with a fellow coworker after they have said a horrible racist word that was very offensive to you? I'm finding it very difficult to forgive and move on.

I've been thinking about my career a lot lately. I feel like I've hit a wall, and I don't know how to get past it.

I've been at this job for almost 5 years now, and ever since the day I started, there have been problems with my coworkers. It's not just one person—it's everyone in my department, and they all seem to be working against each other instead of together. Should I leave?

How to deal with people flirting with you at work.
I’m married, and one of my coworkers flirts with me. Nothing super overt, but definitely not professional. We’re good friends and work together constantly because we’re on the same client, so I don’t want to make it awkward. Do I just do nothing and let it go? It is mostly just odd I’m not super offended, but I’m also clearly uninterested!

Anyone else get frustrated when the partner brags about their billable hour amount for the month? Like congrats, you get to bill .2 for each piece of mail. You also get .2 for every letter your secretary types up as a "form letter" you never even look at. As an Associate, I don't get those easy/automatic hours.

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

How do you deal with a Midlevel who tells the partner you’ll cover for them, but gives you less than 24 hours notice they’ll be gone without asking if you can cover? How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

Had an associate of mine recently confront me and say he has a crush on me. Told him nope and that would be very unprofessional. He has reassured me that this won’t impact our working dynamic but lately there’s been a lot of pushback on any direction given to him or the team. I’m growing concerned he is holding something against me.

How should I approach this?

If one chooses to quit the organization within 7 day. Do we still have to serve notice period.

Also if anyone could refer me in their company, that would be great.

I have got 2.5 yoe in Consulting.
