Giving extra notice should definitely help. But don’t be surprised if they expedite your leave to reduce your opportunity to harvest information for the next place.
Is there any stipulation about notice window in your contract / offer letter? Typically at that level they spell it out. I had a 3 month window at my last company, and I offered to honor the full amount and identify the next person for the role (similar situation, strong relationships and I wanted to make sure they were in a good spot when I left).
CEO took me up on about 2 months / finish out the year. And we were able to identify an internal promo to fill my role.
There aren't a lot of these jobs out there, so whatever you can do to make the exit as smooth and amicable as possible, I'd say try and take it.
This is handy! Thank you for taking the time to respond. This was my first leadership role. I did tell the new employer I’d like to start a month from resignation and imagine they are pushing for sooner to see what they can get.
