Main argument is that the entire ESG industry is not grounded in scientific boundaries and therefore doing more harm than good.

Well garbage men provide an actually useful social service…
As an attorney myself… and knowing what AI is about to do to the industry: Yes. Garbage men > spoiled lawyers
Garbage man, or anyone else, makes what they make depending on several factors. Whether a first year should make less than 140k is dependent on so many factors. Should a baseball player make more than nurses or first responders? They make what they make because of various factors, and whether we agree with it or not is another issue.
If you have a question or concern on what first years make, make a genuine claim about why they should make more or less, instead of making statements like this.
Sanitation Engineer.
Let’s stir the pot: should a first year make less than a “content creator” or “influencer” or a streamer or an Onlyfans model?
The answer has a lot of "maybes" to it.
1. the salary you quote for a garbageman, is that the starting salary? Is that inclusive of all benefits? My understanding is the average garbage man makes about 60k in salary with the remaining compensation coming from benefits (insurance, pension, etc.)
2. Is the salary you're being offered inclusive of benefits or are those on top of your base?
3. It will depend a lot on the size of the firm, if you are joining a small 4-lawyer practice then I would expect the starting salary to be in the 80-100 range, with possibility of benefits. If you are joining a 50-lawyer firm, I would expect 100-140 for a first year.
Trying to compare to other industries isn't a helpful exercise, their pay scale likely stops well below what yours will (hopefully).
Better question: should a first year earn more than an experienced K-12 teacher? Or a college professor with a PhD? Or a judge?
First years don’t make money because they’re smart & valuable. They make money so they’ll put up with the nonsense long enough to become good lawyers one day.
Teachers are notoriously underpaid. If any people should be paid well it should be teachers. It is one of the hardest and most thankless jobs a person can have and the impact on young lives is what helps or hinders in creating the personalities and moral fiber we are all conversing with now. I would bet dollars to donuts that any attorney on this site would take their job over a teaching job even if the salaries were the same - try spending all day corralling kids who don’t listen or care to learn.
I personally know a NYC garbage man who lost both legs because they got crushed in the compactor. Not only is it dirty work, but it can also be dangerous to work with the equipment. I don't equate long hours at a comfy desk to picking up trash, straining my body, and dealing with heavy machinery, which in the worst case could cost me my ability to walk. Strange question.
Yes
Depends. Do you get to keep the garbage?
That’s an arrogant question that shows you lack humility. Maybe the garbage man missed a piece.
