Hello, what is working in retail banking like at JPMorgan Chase ? Specially the branch manager role. I’m looking in the Columbus area. How is pay, culture, benefits, sales environment, meetings, etc. How easy is it to transition from retail banking to corporate. I hear the Polaris campus has great opportunities, I was thinking about getting my foot in the door through retail then transferring to corporate ?

Oof, I was in your position. I went the design route and it was super hard to break out of it, and I feel like I’m behind in my career because of it. But at the same time I sometimes miss designing and I’m glad I have the skills and experience. Do you have the design offer in hand? Just be aware that the farther you go down the design path, the harder it will most likely be to switch over to the AD path. Don’t get discouraged. Keep putting yourself out there!
I feel like once you go the designer route, It’s hard to get out (just from what I’ve heard). Also in my experiences looking for Junior AD jobs I had to reach out to recruiters/people at companies cold in order to find out about that. Most were never posted on LI or anywhere when I knew for a fact they were interviewing for it (as I was literally interviewing for it). My advice would be to try your hand at that, particularly at agencies that you know won new business/are hiring
Most of the art directors I know started as designers and junior designers. I wouldn’t be worried about being stuck. Shift up and over the more you collaborate with your teams.
If you need the money. Take the job but build your book out to be more conceptual and have spec campaigns in there.
Look at other junior ADs books at the shops you want to work and figure out what you’re missing.
