Hmm, even purely financially you are not looking at it correctly
If it’s paid leave and the bonus is what you are concerned about; you earn the base pay without working that month
So if you go back to work, you has to put in a full months work to earn base+4k vs take paternity and just get base. Assuming base is 180+ given your bonus is 48k+, it’s work 0 days and make 15k and work a whole month and make 19k and your spouse may need extra support (baby sitter/nanny) which deducts from that 19k
As a dad with a 19 month old, I’d take the paternity. You won’t get that time back with your baby and your spouse will appreciate the support.
Spending time with your newborn and helping your wife emotionally/physically/mentally > $24,000 , 40 or 50 years from now this is memory you will either look back fondly or regretfully
It’ll set you back. Dads need to be rock of the family and provide. You cannot fall behind.
Really hope this is a joke, if not this is terrible.
What ? Isn’t it fully paid?
I don’t get paid bonus .
So its like 4k a month.
Question for your partner
When my son was born I got one week paid leave. The rest was on me.
Can you take it in pieces? Having that much straight could affect performance, contributions, etc.
I have my third child coming soon, and will take it all, but in 3 segments
If you can afford it, yes take it. (i.e. No large CC debts, emergency fund in place)
