Depends on culture of firm you’re interviewing at. Be better dressed than your interviewer, but not uncomfortably better dressed.
Wear a tie if they’re formal, not if they’re in a sweatshirt.

I wore a tie with a button down and a suit jacket and my sweat pants lol. Doesnt hurt being presentable up top.
For video interviews I typically have gone suit jacket and white shirt with no tie. Tie seems very formal for wfh
I would personally not want to hire someone wearing a tie on a zoom call.

I never used one, even during in person. Potentially because, someone recommended early in my career “if a firm rejects you because you were not properly dressed, then probably the firm does not care for your talent”. I know this might not be the right approach, but I have 100% interview turnaround rate so far.
