Six months ago my friend told me they were hiring at her firm. I wasn’t thrilled with where I was so I eventually left for that firm and I really regret it. While I like the people there I was very misled about the work volume and help I would have. I am still friends with people at my last place and the person who replaced me there is doing VERY poorly. One of my friends thinks there is a real possibility that I will be asked to come back.

Remember why you left in the first place. Chances are if you go back, you will just leave again in a couple of years because it would be exactly the same job you had before which you didn't like.

I have made real friendships here and my leaving would really screw them, esp this one person I have become close to. Ugh I don’t know. The thought possibly having to give notice after a few months is making me nauseous! They were a disaster here because the last person left abruptly and it was chaos for a few months. It’s all running smoothly again and I feel like my friend will be pissed off if I leave. Thoughts?

What a strange reply. Well if you’re not happy you should do what you think is best regardless of what people think. At the end of the day, what matters is you. However, think about the consequences. Not to them but you.

It sounds like what might help here is making a pros and cons list for each firm so that you may be able to make a fully informed decision, but I’d like to stress to NOT leave your current firm on the information that you’re getting as until you’re actually asked to come back? You’re not asked to come back.

Why did you choose to leave your first firm? I wasn’t sure if you left your first firm because of the volume/lack of help or if that was one of the reason why you were wanting to leave your second.

To be frank, if she was a real friend - you could come to her and explain your complaints without fear of reprisal. I definitely understand the situation and how awkward you must feel, but you need to remember that at the end of the day: you just need to be able to take care of you and/or your family.

Salaries have really been spiking. I am curious what the salary for a Principal/ Junior Partners would be in a mid-sized accounting firm now. In January I was approached for $200K for a senior manager role. Now a head hunter has approached me with $225K.

How do you deal with the following - 1) lack of general organization in life, note taking, keeping track of your relationships and 2) attention to detail. These 2 things have been bothering me a lot. Also I feel the lack of organization in personal life blows into professional as well. If you are a consultant how do u deal with it ?

I feel like I am very naive and cannot read between the lines, so I can’t tell if someone is trying to fuck me over or not. This leads me to be extremely skeptical of others’ intentions, and makes me less confident that I can influence others, and in general really erodes my self-confidence. Does anyone else feel similarly? If so, how have you dealt with it?

Any struggling paralegals here? Do you feel like your financial situation is affecting your productivity at work? I like the work I do but the pay really sucks. I feel like the fear of not being able to pay some bills on time is affecting my productivity. I’ve asked for a raise but that may not still cut it, and idk if that will go through or not.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.
