Omg they said “the colored must choose” 😭😭😭 like this is very serious but I’m laughing at the absurdity. They are awful
The last 3 firms I was at as an Associate recognized Juneteenth post 2020. What city is your firm in/is it an AmLaw 200 firm? I thought for sure most of the major players at least got the memo, but if not definitely let me know so I can advise my candidates not to go there! 😅
I’m in house at a private equity company. So regardless I’m taking off lol but still wtf
Work for the federal government or in the DC area. A lot of private companies don’t acknowledge every federal holiday unfortunately.
They only have time to honor black history 1/ 365 days. Awesome 🙄
No recommendations, unfortunately. DEI efforts are usually the first to be cut in this economy so hard to tell which companies are still prioritizing it.
Nah I feel like we’re glossing over the fact they made them choose between MLK day and Juneteenth. Wtf?
I thought this was already put in place but when I checked our calendars, nope it's not there! When I looked up firms for us came up with a small list: Akin Gump, Sidley Austin, Squire Patton Boggs, O' Melveny & Myers, Morgan Lewis
At my firm I can observe Juneteenth but at the cost of PTO. We do observe MLK
My firm doesn’t recognize Juneteenth as a day either. My last firm did and gave MLK day.
Lots of places don’t give the day off for things like Juneteenth Presidents’ Day Veterans Day Columbus Day.
My last job didn’t recognize Juneteenth when it first became a holiday in 2021 — I just took the day off lol
It’s absurd for them to make you choose between the two though
I wouldn’t care at all if a firm didn’t give either of those days off. BUT to offer them off and make black people choose one or the other??? Not Juneteenth/Columbus Day or another one like that? 😯
I work in Florida and it’s very uncommon to get either of those days off. I didn’t even really think anyone except banks and gov got MLK off until i happened to be travelling one MLk weekend
My firm doesn't either. It's sad. I really need to get out of this place, but I'm like you - I'm finding it hard to find any firm that actually practices what they preach.
Spencer Fane does, they give Juneteenth off and actually seem to practice what they preach.
Like THOSE two? Of ALL the holidays to have to have to pick from?? 🤯
They’re not even in the same month!!
They are not required to recognize it as a holiday, unfortunately. And bottom line is, companies don't like to give more days off unless they have to.
