So frustrateed. There is so much being said about educators/school nurses, what is expected of them in the schools, how they should be handling children, disciplining them, providing more for special needs children and less for "normal" kids. Folks just want more and more out of school staff. All I see is "I'm damned if I do and damned if I dont" To me, what folks are saying needs to be done is called parenting. It's a verb. "Where are we getting the extra staff to parent your child??"

I am generally uncomfortable when I’m around my mother-in-law’s husband.

While he is overall a decent guy, his anger issues, yelling at his wife for the slightest issue, and insulting nature makes me uncomfortable and triggers my own anger due to his blatant disrespect for just about everyone around him.

Have you had to change your start date after accepting an offer and how did it go? I told them I need to give 30 day notice and so I set my start date (incorrectly) assuming the background check and drug screen would take a few days to clear. However, the drug screen is now taking over a week and a half (still not finished, maybe tomorrow). Apparently things are much slower due to staffing issues and labs are backed up. It’s cutting into my 30 day notice significantly. Thoughts?

General question: Is there any room in corporate America for real, actionable DE&I discussions and initiatives? I've observed so many corporate versions become an advertising strategy (SM posts, diversity reports) without doing the actual work (increasing representation in senior leadership, salary analyses, having an effective reporting system for bias). Is this just how it is?

Allergies in the cafeteria?
Now that all students are back to eating in the cafeteria, the “peanut/tree nut free” section is just at the end of each long table. When I see the custodians cleaning between lunch sessions, they use the same, one towel to wipe all the tables in the lunch room. I have a very severe peanut allergy myself and worry about cross contamination constantly. And as a school nurse, I’m wondering what other schools do to prevent cross contamination in the cafeteria. Thoughts?
