McKinsey & Company Any advice to help prepare for data science analyst role at top consulting firms (McKinsey & Company EY Boston Consulting Group etc)? Any materials, open source platform recommended to take on freelance data science project? When should I start actively looking and applying? I am a new grad who is working in tech as a marketing analyst I’m looking to pivot to marketing& sales data science consulting next year. I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Any PgM level 4 or 5 here?
I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

To confirm, the HM was an L6, not the role? If the latter, L6 with 6 YOE will be nearly impossible.
Try again in a few months. You might just not be a fit for that hiring managers specific role.
Do you have an idea of where your experience gaps might be based on the interview?
Most Googlers apply 2+ times before getting hired.
First interview was just a screen too right? L6 with just 6YOE is very hard and they probably didn't want to bring in someone at a lower level like they would for larger openings so perhaps just that team wasn't interested in you. Hard to say if any others would but there are so many recruiters assigned to different portions of the business that you probably have other chances to try

Thanks. Great feedback. Yes, I believe it was screen call with (what I was told by my referral) L7 Hiring Manager. The role was L6. I have 6 years of experience in consulting (post MBA) and 6 years in engineering (prior MBA). The only feedback I received was that they decided to go with someone who has stronger PMO experience.
Thanks for the additional info. Without knowing a ton of details about you, I think L6 PgM is going to be difficult with your years/background. I’d try again for an L4/5.
You won’t get more specific feedback, Google doesn’t provide details to the candidates.
