Consensus from everything I’ve read suggests you should just transfer to airlines for miles. I’ve down multiple round trip long haul business class flights with all the points I’ve banked.
Pro
Use chase points for Hyatt. Amex for air travel.
Pro
Look up the point guys website, usually some great info if you want to max out value
Don’t transfer to Marriott for sure. Airline used to be the best bet, but they have devalued their miles way too much. Cashing out is not a bad idea sometimes, if you are not looking to travel.
Not the best conversion, but getting an Amex Platinum card from Charles Schwab is an option. Convert points to cash in Charles Schwab brokerage account. Either invest using Charles Schwab or transfer it out as cash.
Yes, cashing out is the biggest benefit here. Of course you can invest as well and grow that money over time.
Best bang for buck by country mile is to final an AWARD/REWARD flight on an airline (specifically first or business class). Then transfer you points directly to airline and use airline points for the flight.
Only a few airlines have partnership with both Amex and chase (I think ANA And Emirates do).
You need to look for flights 6-12 months in advance as there are typically only a few seats available for this booking type.
They are not the easiest to find but can quite literally get a 5-10k flight for a 150-300k points. You won't get better bang for buck
Pro
Also if you’re willing to roll the dice, less than 2 weeks before alot of award availability opens up (on international flights)
Join Amex groups on Facebook. Someone posted about cheap Chicago-Madrid business class tickets. Got RT for $68K points. Unreal!

I used to be in the Amex platinum group but it was filled with people posting photos of half eaten plates of food and glasses of champagne at a centurion lounge somewhere, or people complaining about complete nonsense like complaining about not being able to use priority pass lounges on arrival.
Every now and then there were, however, some good tips.
What’s the $ of value of these?
I think AMEX is currently valued at $0.02 for most conversions. Flights are by far the best bang for your buck with AMEX. If you don’t need to use them, I’d just continue to accumulate honestly.
Can you invest with Charles Schwab still?
Only if you have the Schwab platinum card
