AWS cloud application architect. Had an on-site interview with AWS a few days ago and just got an email saying they want to talk to me about next steps. The role is cloud application architect but I want to ask them about the senior cloud application architect role. I have all the relevant experience for that role and feel like I’d be a better fit for that senior role. How should I approach this conversation? Is this even possible? Amazon

In regards to bonus, I would always look at it like this: when you switch job/roles there is always around a 3 month ramp up period. This period can't be accounted for your performance so there's at minimum 3 mths of prorated bonus you'll miss out on. Even if your current company paid your bonus recently, I would look into how your new company pays out. If they pay out feb-April (depending on their annual close) you're losing out on this entire year of bonus. I would negotiate that in your signing bonus.

Be truthful as they can always call your bluff. I once negotiated an offer from big pharma. I told them I’d be missing out on RSUs and bonus. They asked me to submit documentation including a screenshot of my Fidelity Investment account. They came back with a final offer that was 25k more than my negotiated offer, 10% more RSUs, and a signing bonus.
