So my 17 year old daughter just came to me last night and told me she’s interested in a 21 year old guy she works with. She wanted to know what I thought. HELL NO was my first thought. Cont...

And it’s still hell no, but I appreciate that she came to me to ask. She wanted to talk to me because she knew her mom would just flip out. I put my consultant face on and explained why I didn’t think it was a good idea and why I would I would not approve. Being a dad is tough sometimes

Mine is 15 and I just found out that a 17 year old convinced her to get naked and tried to have unprotected sex in the school parking lot, when she was 14 (last month). The police are talking to him today.

Older boys are trouble. A 17 year old's prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed and she's going to make dumb choices.

At least she told you. I had to find out the hard way - finding a diary.

Thanks. It helps to put on the client face at home sometimes when you are internally saying “dafuq did you just say?” 😂

A1- I told her that my instinct was to say no but I respect that she came to me. Because of that I would take time to consider her request (it will still be a no). I’m sure that I’ll probably get the “but I’ll be 18 in December and can do what I want”. And by then I’m sure this will be a thing of the past. I’ve always been honest with her and she shares my logical reasoning. Most of the time. Right now it’s just being clouded by hormones

Offer opinion, maintain the trust. I think that its amazing that you have a relationship with your daughter where she trusts you to tell you.

Yea that’s a tough conversation - my daughter is 2, I’m a ways off yet. How did you tell her without making her mad/so she doesn’t rebel?

Not looking forward to that day, but hope my now 9m daughter will have learned to trust me by that time. Sounds like you're a great dad, OP.

Next time polish your rifle and sabre when that 21 yo boy visits your house.
