Hi. My students are playing indoors with masks and instrument covers. We went virtual the past two weeks and I went on working on musical elements. My meets are 40+ so they are long but I have posted an 8 measure item with various articulations for them to play for me during the meet by themselves. I also assigned a Christmas solo that I had all the students record as our band Christmas Concert for the year.
So I am focusing on the basics elements.
Hope this helps
We were doing hybrid. I was trying to do small ensembles. Since we were building towards everyone coming back, I ignored A/B days... paid dearly for that. Doing solos for spring semester and Ticheli's adaptation of Vesuvius. I just need things for my less experienced kids to have some ensemble opportunities. Definitely going to work our technique book more too, but getting kids to pay attention to others... it's a battle.
My students and I are playing instruments with proper mitigation protocols in place (instrument and musician masks, woodwind bags, social distancing, open doors, etc.). We even have class outdoors when the weather permits. We’ve been working on instrument fundamentals, scales, music theory, and some repertoire. When compared to previous years we’re definitely behind, but I give nothing but props to my students. Slowly, but surely, they’ve been pushing along!
I didn’t by the bags I went and bought the 80% nylon fabric and cut it to size. Rubber bands are awesome. So I saved some money that way
