I cleared two technical rounda where deep domain related questions were asked and it seems interview went very well and told I be getting Hr call for further process. This is really tough and I’m sorry you have the extra stress on your first pregnancy. Not the same, but my main account was lost when I was 6 months pregnant. I was terrified and felt the same way—thought about finding a more secure job before baby. I stayed. I survived two rounds of layoffs. I returned and coasted for a good three months before finding a new job. And honestly in this market: pressures of a new job with a bitty baby are almost worse than the stress I felt living through those layoffs pregnant.
I don’t know if I did it the right way—but if I could do it over I’d do it the same way and just wait a little longer after I returned before finding a new job.
This is a good perspective I hadn’t thought of… so tough to know what’s best.
Don’t leave yet. I was laid off pregnant as well back in 2009 and no one would hire me as they do not want to pay for maternity leave.
With the Omnicom policy you don’t have to pay your leave back. So apply while on leave if you don’t want to stay, but don’t leave now
The Hartford is the 3rd party vendor that administers leaves of absence. You usually apply and get 6 weeks of short term disability for a vaginal birth or 8 weeks for C-section (first 6 weeks fully paid, any week after that at 50% of salary. Then you get actual mat leave which is 12 weeks unpaid by law (FMLA) but Omnicom apparently only pays for 10 of those (IPG had 12 paid weeks of family leave)
I’m in the same situation and I’m applying… hoping to be able to negotiate if I find something that fits well. I haven’t heard what will happen with mat leave here officially but the rumblings aren’t good. Good luck!!
I've started applying and setting up interviews already as well. Fully aware that I'll need to negotiate some type of mat leave if I do get an offer anywhere. I'm also unsure at what point I'm supposed bring up my pregnancy since I know it will absolutely need to be a negotiation!
Tell them! You’re a protected class!
Tell them. They have to think hard before laying you off especially if you have documented good performance and great standing with your management.
I got a new job when i was 2 months pregnant- this is many years ago now. I didn’t tell them until a couple months after i was hired. Of course, if you’re showing they’d know. But agree it’s illegal to decide based on that. I would say nothing. It’s very dicey for them legally to hold it against you, esp if it’s a holding company- very risk averse.
I might be more of the forward thinking pov. But, personally I think the mindset of applying while pregnant as a disadvantage is a thing of the past. To me, that mentality was for different times. I totally get it, but what’s the actual evidence of women not returning after giving birth/post in the last 5 years? I’ve worked at multiple agencies in the last 5+ years and every woman that has had kids is still working. And doesn’t plan on that changing anytime soon.
Yeah I didn’t necessarily mean immediately after birth. Like sure, I’m sure that’s some worry. But rather that the early years are tough and the entire system is built against moms.
