Some of our members are becoming increasingly negative or hostile towards others and would love any insideer advice on how to increase more positivilty and avoid this becoming a toxic landslide.

First, remind the group that everyone's opinion is valued and appreciated. It's important to create a safe environment where everyone is comfortable to express themselves without fear of judgement or criticism. Secondly, encourage members to take a step back and remember that we're all here for the same goal - to help each other grow. Lastly, I'd suggest instituting a "no put downs" policy - a practice that's worked well for me in the past. This way, people will be less likely to be negative or hostile towards others.

Do you have a moderator? Mods are the best way to kind of limit the toxicity in a community and they're kind of necessary these days when there's so much hostility and trolling online.

Creating and enforcing policies can help tremendously with this. You have to be consistent and not worry about hurting feelings because, in the end, hurting a few people's feelings is preferable to your entire community going down the drain. It's also important to see if you can identify underlying problems that are causing hostility & do what you can to solve those issues systemically to help increase the health of your community. It's not always easy, but expressing your care and looking for unifying experiences to share and help create connections among members is also helpful!
