Not callous. Just sounds super ignorant. Why do teachers teach when they get paid so terribly? Like cmon.
Teachers get paid handsomely. And they work half the year. They’re not hero’s, they’re lazy.

We're all coming at this from different angles. It's not CVS Health's fault but I gather they're in the vast majority of people who think advertising is 100% graphic design and in-app copy. That art direction equals graphic design, and that copywriting equals words on websites.
CVS Health, the creative advertising industry is having a bad time but it encapsulates far more than you seem to grasp.
My AD/Cd friend did just that. Took him a few years to learn to code but bought himself freedom from ageism and ad politics.
Not sure but i assume he’ll be doing it for way longer.

I concur with 'Art Director 1'. My whole life I wanted to draw and design and that's what I do. I made the decision to branch out and I knew it was either coding or 3d design (possibly product design). So, I went with 3d design. I am studying this year at the IT Acadamy along with working as a freelance designer and an illustrator. But judging from what I have learned I don't think I will get a job that soon in 3d. Meanwhile work seems to be picking up in my sector, so I am glad to have this safety net for now.
I'm actually smiling as I typed this because this kinda reminded me of trying to explain my job to my parents when I was starting out as Jr. GD.... I guess it's hard to explain if you're not in (or have ever worked in) the creative industry... some have gone through the "horror stories" and left, while some have been through the layers of hell and thrive.
Why so many people gunning for creative jobs still? Best I can describe it is you get rewarded for being YOU. Your ideas, your style, your art, your writing... basically your creativity. And that leaves a mark that no one can take away from you once it out there.
The industry still has a lot to offer. And I think it will for a long time, it’s just changing. This line of work is a great career path and I’ll always advocate for young creatives to explore the advertising and marketing industries. There’s a lot to learn, even in the more humble digital roles or inhouse teams.
Learn to code? Coding as a job is going away due to AI. I'll bet on creativity any day.
A lot of creatives can’t code. It’s like asking a programmer to learn to paint on a professional level. Plus I know several developers that are out of work.
