I highly recommend reaching out to anyone in your network working client side to be top of mind. I had a really hard time crossing over and only made it to my current position as a last minute interview through a referral. The two other people on my team who worked mostly agency side before this were also referrals. It was a really big adjustment and most people internally had bad experiences working with agencies so I get why there’s some hesitation there (even now it’s rough and I have to lead on a lot of projects and always help QA because we keep catching mistakes).
Great point about the hesitancy. I came from the agency side too. One of my in house roles I inherited an account manager from a agency that was terrible. Took credit for my work, didn’t get things done, dishonest, etc.
Sadly they got hired as my team lead and the shit continued. The agency they came from serviced most regions of the world for us and one region fired them because their executives would also constantly lie.
Well those people went and started their own agency, so the terrible account manager we hired, have them our contract at a massively inflated price.
We ran into constant issues and I’d have to bring them up and eventually was fired for it.
There’s some really shady agencies out there
The WFA job boards is a good source.
The problem with 11 year experience agency sidr is you might be too senior a hire to be hired by a media marketing professional and end up being interviewed by pure marketing or communication execs who don't know what they don't know about media and will default to credentials so you end up competing with MBAs and seniors from reputable brands. A solution might be to build up your own certification credentials and target roles in the same category to those you've worked with agency side, seems to work for quite a few people.
Do you think we need mbas to make the switch then?
Remote?
This is the time of year to look as a lot of new roles opened up at the start of the year
I’d recommend searching a few times a week on LinkedIn. In house is tough to find so it may take a while but it’s worth it
