Congrats on the above average market offer it looks like for your position 👏🏽
You could do the lump sum as C1 suggested but move yourself if y’all are able bodied. Recently helped a family member move from NC to KS with a Uhaul (1200 miles). 4-6 hrs to load things from her apt. Spent about $1000 on gas with the 15’ truck. I believe it was around $2500 to rent it for 5 days.
You then would probably need to get storage if you don’t have a permanent place just yet. Those aren’t that expensive based on my experience in the Midwest tho. Would be very convenient if you were able to get a place by your start date 😅
From my point of view, seems like you would probably be able to pocket some of that lump sum even if you moved your stuff yourselves. Just a lot of sweat and time.
Good luck with everything & enjoy the journey!
Thank you! Great cost reference.
Congratulations on the offer. With regard to your move, it depends on where you are moving from? Get free quotes from multiple movers - mention it is a personal move i.e. you are paying for it personally and not the company. Lump sum is usually the better option.
Thanks! Certainly will do!
Relo costs are extremely high right now. I would take the lump sump and just buy new stuff. Also the standard package would put you on the hook for $50-60k if you leave early for any reasons. Movers charge top tier for company relos.
I think OP has a wife and family so they might already have home properties so furnished rentals might not be an option
Congratulations on the offer….I actually have an interview for a sr technical PgM role Monday. Any advice?
DM me! Mine is non-tech though.
Congrats on the offer! Did you negotiate the other levers already?
Thank you! I negotiated the base just +$5K, sign-on +$10K, and the RSU’s +40. A GSM role was actually my alternative in SF, and this seemed a much better fit.
I recently did this and took the relo package a friend took the lump sum. I can honestly say that the lump sum is a bad way to go. The relo includes reimbursement, paid house hunting trips, professional movers, paid temp hosing or you can rent in lieu of the temp hosing and use the temp housing credit towards deposits. In my opinion the relo package is by far a better deal.
It is all taxed. Regardless of what you pick.
65k sigh on?! Wowzers!
Prorated over 2yrs though.
I was relocated through my job and the taxes killed me.
Sheesh 😳
