..in my niche industry and it’s paying off big. I’d rather not have someone come in and take some of the business I can get from the events I attend and the industry I am in.
Am I wrong for being annoyed about the firm considering another partner-level candidate who reached out to them blind, over finding an associate to support my practice?
It sounds like you’re being consulted about hiring a potential partner. If you don’t think a new partner is warranted let the firm know. Maybe you guys can expand the practice together?
Thanks - yes that’s what it seems like and the firm has treated me well in almost all respects (we’ll see as my draw/compensation convo is upcoming), but I’ve had poor experiences in the past when trying to collaborate so I may be projecting.
Anytime I’ve come across someone more senior who has found I can develop business, they have either openly tried to connect with my referral sources/clients or seemingly competed with me at conferences (“mind if I keep the business cards you collected so we can reach out to them?”)
Be wary.
