No surprise. It seems there are no consequences for anything in SF anymore. Homelessness is supported as a viable way of life and the cost of living has a lot of people desperate. Pair that with police that don’t do much, haven for criminals. Last time I was there every window of my rental car was smashed in to take what amounted to a backpack and a phone charger. Really sad. When the populace permits the behavior, it spreads. Such a beautiful place in ruin. I hope it gets better.

I live in SF and while it's frustrating the mainstream narrative is misinformed
At a high level you can categorize crime as violent crime or property crime (note robbery counts as violent crime). SFs propery crime rate is relatively high as is total crime rate, but violent crime rate is not especially high https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate
In practice this usually means that you don't need to worry much about your physical safety and that incidents like this one are not an SF problem so much as a general problem. I wear my luxury watches around the city all the time and am rarely worried, at least compared to some other cities I've lived in (this story does make me thankful that I'm not a Rolex fan, I don't think a 17 year old thug like the one involved here knows what a Blancpain is)
The SF-specific problem is things like auto theft or getting your car windows smashed in with infrequent repercussions. We've had some meaningful positive progress there over the last few months, but you're not going to hear about that if you don't live here. They've started clearing homeless camps regularly and at scale, increasing efforts to catch auto thefts using drones, and addressing a stupid loophole that enabled the car smash and grabs
I’ve been wearing my sub and Daytona all around San Francisco and never felt unsafe. Unfortunate situation but definitely nowhere near the norm.
The idea that SF is this crime-ridden dangerous hellhole is beyond stupid to me.
100% agree. And like I was saying the article said he was near union square. Not exactly the nicest area if you make a wrong turn

Another reason to buy something more interesting than a Rolex
Every thief knows Rolex. Buy something abit more original. Only rolex I like is a rose gold Day Date or skydweller.
Fun fact the tenderloin is two blocks away from union square which is by far San Francisco’s worst neighborhood so not surprised
