Go to the park, zoo, and botanical gardens. Go to Coronado beach.

Adding the safari park in addition to the zoo. I love SD!
I love the sculpture garden in balboa park. I also love people watching at the glider port in La Jolla. Where are you staying? Fair weather and noble experiment are nice low key bars. If you like sweets, you HAVE to go to Extraordinary Desserts.
I love the beach too, but the nicer beaches are further north IMO. I also like walking around seaport village and the harbor.
Pro
Zoo- plan on an entire day. La Jolla- a full day could be had by walking the beach, sitting rocks overlooking ocean, shopping boutiques, restaurants. Coronado Island- rent a bike, go to beach, go to famous Hotel del. Old Town if you like Mexican & shops.
I’ve heard they have an amazing zoo!! The beach is also incredible in SD.
Also lots of hikes and scenic walks.
Funny you mentioned that you were married
I saw it as an unnecessary detail which wouldn’t have impacted any sightseeing suggestions. I think you took it on a diff tangent
- Favorite beach: Torrey Pines State Beach- beautiful beach and hiking
- Walk around at Sunset Cliffs and Balboa Park, perhaps go to a museum there
- Brunch at Snooze (idk if still open)
- Lots of diverse, awesome food
Also check out the Seaport area near downtown!
Cove La Jolla is a must visit as well
Bike to cabrillo monument from the city. It’s a tough bike ride (lots of hills) but if you’re into biking, it’s worth it. Mission trails regional park is a fun hiking spot too

Rendezvous in Del Mar, for dinner. Make sure you’re seated before sunset—it’s gorgeous.
Taka in the Gaslamp if you’re into sushi
Mount Soledad if you like climbing (you can drive up most of the way, there’s a veterans memorial at the top, along with beautiful views in all directions)
