Faced this weird behaviour from Optum recently. Gave interview for Data Scientist position. HR said feedback is positive. Asked for documents. It's been month now since I have shared the documents. I have no update on the offer. Today I called HR, she called me back saying the position is on hold due to recalibration in team, She has shared interview feedbacks to other teams and will get back to me in couple of days. I am clueless now. My last working day is approaching (In a month). Any Help??

Good to jot stuff down, but don't be full on writing sentences
To clarify, there's a time and place for everything. If interviewer is giving you a case prompt / details, take notes. If he/her is responding to a question and the answer is long / complex / insightful (the ones you ask at the end), take notes. If you're just chit chatting, don't take notes. Judgment call.

How many people answering this question have actually been on the other side of the table? There's nothing in an interview that needs to be written down unless it's some kind of prompt. Note taking looks weird and generally a bit juvenile. If you can't remember the gist of what I said, I'm not hiring you.

I have been on both sides and I agree it is situational but I would default to have something out to write on. It shouldn't be writing everything down but it should be ready for notes on important items. Yes it should be a conversation but it shows preparedness that you have something and are taking basic notes. A interview is still a meeting and that should always be in a meeting

Agree with the above... only juniors take notes. I don't even bring a resume anymore. If they didn't print it I'll just say no worries I can talk to it.

Lol well the thought is you've already somehow emailed your resume to them or HR had already passed through so they should have their own soft copy. I mean I suppose it's not bad practice to be bringing a couple copies but it's a confidence game isn't it not needing to roll in with the leather notepad and CVs tucked in -you know your shit inside and out. They want to observe you and how you talk and present yourself not read off a piece of paper. Email them the resume again after the interview if they insist

I do it if they give some detailed long answer that I may need to address. Did so for a client facing role when applying for graduate role and head of sales was impressed and told me

I act like I'm taking notes but in reality describe what they look like so I can remember the conversation (Super day) when I do the follow up emails
