A1: how did you land in tech consulting and what's your area of work ?
D2: another part of equation is that your leadership should be ready to let you go. I have a good support from the SL leadership I want to join but my current leaders aren't letting me go
@D1 yeah certain SLs (typically the package solutions) tend to be very clingy when it comes to their people
I know where I want to land in S&O and I've been networking hard inside that area. Most of them have been positive about the goal but realistic in terms that S&O had a not so great year and as such, making the SA switch even harder. I'm also in one of the pkg techs so even harder to loosen the grip they have. Working S&O projects is def a goal (or initiatives at least) but gotta navigate the political landscape carefully as well.
Why do you have to sell your soul?
Transferring within Deloitte is a nightmare
What D1 said. Once your slated to a service area and service line, you're theirs for keeps basically.
Same at Accenture :(. I've been trying to switch from tech to mgmt for the last 2 years. I'm honestly about to pull the trigger and leave the firm. Sad because I love my coworkers, culture and pay...but the work in TC is not my area at all.
I was able to switch SL. You just gotta impress a PPD enough and bam, transfer!
SL transfer here as well. SA is probably more difficult though (not that the SL transfer was a walk in the park either!) unless you happen to be one of those groups that gets transferred via SL mergers
Went through a service area transfer myself. You don't have to sell your soul... But, to the extent possible, you need to pick what you work on very carefully (partners it's for, what you're learning, how you're adding value). Also, you Can start doing S&O-style projects now. Maybe you won't get the title for a bit, but you'll be doing the work and gaining the experience you want.
OP what's your current SA/SL?
And yes you have to be super careful navigating the political landscape. I can't stress it enough. Got screwed over in my year end because of this. Cost me a promotion so far
Tech/Oracle. And yeah D1, that is one of two main fears. The other being burnin bridges with my network. Many of them are not big on SA jumpers. To attempt and fail would be probably career ending here. Granted I would most likely seek external ops anyway to get away from Tech.
