The cafeteria closing at 7 PM when the night shift is just starting is a hate crime against healthcare workers. We are literally keeping people alive in the dark, and we can’t even get a fresh cup of coffee after midnight. Is it too much to ask for the essential staff to have access to essential caffeine?

They need to have some way for all of you to get some food and coffee overnight. I would think that they would provide a Keurig machine and K-cups so you can make yourself a cup of coffee.

like

I agree, a Keurig or a coffee vending machine. Some of those coffee vending machines are pretty good!

Sometimes I will bring my own instant coffee and make it with heating up water in the microwave. It's not fancy but it works for me in a pinch!

like

I can’t disagree with you, but at the same time, they’re not going to have the same volume of business to justify keeping it open (from a financial perspective). Where I work, the cafeteria is open for two hours in the morning, two hours at lunchtime, and there is no longer open for dinner. However, there is a coffee/donut shop In the is open until 11 PM, so at least people coming in for night grab that cup of coffee and whatever food they might need for their overnight shift. But we had to work hard to convince the to do that. Band together and make the place that you work at realize that this may be a needed service.

my apologies for any typos

Night staff often feel overlooked when support services close early. Many hospitals address this by providing vending options or limited overnight food services.
