There was an ad the other day in the elevator at work saying, "Maybe if you read the Economist, you'd be getting off on a higher floor...."

How ridiculous for them to prey on people's desire for success in the hierarchy of the workplace, to try to sell their magazines to us, gross!

I get how it can come off as obnoxious. But I would honestly find that kind of funny. It's just a joke to catch your attention. We don't have to take everything totally seriously.

I think it just felt tone deaf to me, if that makes sense. And catching me in the elevator in the morning on my way up when I'm still feeling burnt out from the days before, money troubles sometimes on the mind, it's not a good time to relate to the humor in it. I think part of the success of a joke lies within your audience.

I feel bad for people who don't have intellectual curiosity.

Are you trying to imply that critiquing an ad for one magazine equates to that? That's kind of a big jump.

Who reads magazines anymore anyways?

I’m a certified Health Coach (my training/courses are CCE-accredited by the International Coach Federation) w/ a BS in Psychology. I got a temp to hire starting at $18/hr. It is my first professional health coach job & they did not require temps to have a coaching certification, but I have one. I’d like to know if temps could negotiate salary when given the job offer. The position is remote & I’d like $20/hr. I’ve invested in myself as a coach & plan to complete board certification by early 2023

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.
