Thinking about pursuing a role at a startup - while I know it can be risky, I feel like now is as good a time as any to take that chance while I’m young and single without too many financial responsibilities. What are some questions you would ask during the interview process to try to get a feel for the level of risk associated with the role/company?

Definitely check out their crunch base and what series of funding they are on. Series A tends to be riskier than B etc. Ask about burn rate. They should have a projection as to when they are out of cash. Also look at who the investors are. It can tell you a lot. Also make sure they give you equity or it isn’t worth the risk.

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. I feel like it gave the impression that I don’t know what I’m doing. Any suggestion how I can recover from this?

Ex-consultant now in marketing. Used to be an avid follower here and got great insights on companies when trying to exit consulting so thought I’d try here for advice. Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.
