Sell a lot of stuff
I know a few sales guys at the blue chip tech firms that sell org software / ERP systems / etc, and they have the best mix of compensation and lifestyle I have seen of anyone I’ve ever met. Because of the massive commissions, they can make seven, maybe 8 figures a year working 40 hrs a week. The flip side is that it’s still sales - they miss their quota 2 quarters in a year, they’re gone. Honestly, if you like sales, go for it - just be ready to perform. Best of luck
Yea, this is obviously the top sales guys. Nowhere did I say it was “so common,” and a lot of people do target tech sales. My point was that there is huge potential upside in the field OP was asking about. I’m assuming OP is intelligent enough to know I’m not suggesting every single person in tech sales earns millions. Because, you know…duh.
Narrow down the field before you look into how to maximize earnings.
Take stories like Mckinsey 1's with a grain of salt; there's money to be made, but making the big bucks is never as easy as it sounds.
Why not stay in MBB if you want to do sales? Being a partner is a sales job.
Indeed, partnership involves sales, but I'm looking for a better lifestyle.
