Had grand dreams of practicing criminal law in school. I started out of law school in criminal defense actually lol. Absolutely hated everything about it. From the firm’s unethical practices to being in court, constant stress, being a parent to clients, etc. “Jumped ship”, or so I thought, to a small niche property law firm and had similar experiences. Got desperate to get out of the law firm setting and had a connection in tax PA that referred me and I gave it a try. Never thought I’d be in tax but here we are and I have never been happier over the last few years. Yeah, our hours can get rough sometimes but that’s par the course for a lawyer and it isn’t even that bad compared to hours most of my friends in traditional practice work. To boot, tax is really interesting and fun as well. It’s like solving puzzles all day :) To sum it up, I’m very happy I joined public accounting.
Started in private practice and then moved the B4. Had to keep reminding myself to not redline documents. That was one of the harder transitions. That, and constantly selling/working for bring in revenue. In private practice, work was just handed to me. In PA, it was really about selling projects and building relationships. I don’t think I’ve actually ever met my clients when I practiced law.
