This associate I’m working with has been so rude, and I’m so tempted to complain to another associate. Do you complain to your peers at the firm or keep it professional? How do you deal with needlessly aggressive and confrontational colleagues?

Complaining about people at your job to other (safe) people at your job is a part of law imo. Just make absolutely sure you can trust whoever you’re complaining to. I’ve trauma bonded with many former coworkers this way lol

Keep it professional. Always. Dont stoop to their level. Let your work product speak for itself and avoid working with them if you can.

What do you expect to gain by telling HR?
I suggest watching the videos by Jefferson Fisher. He has some really good ideas on how to respond to certain people/ways of speaking.

Agreed with A2. I have close friends at work who I can safely to complain to. In general, I wouldn't complain to another associate on the same matter, though. Not because they might tattle, just because I think it fuels resentment toward the bad associate in a way that can feel draining if unchecked.

Given all the recent buzz about expected large raises around the big 4, I’d like to level set on the average salary for a 4th/5th year female senior manager in federal tax ( credits & methods group) in the Midwest - Chicago/Minneapolis/Detroit market. Anyone willing to share a range if they work in a similar area of tax / similar level? I recognize all groups vary greatly in salary expectations, so looking for input specific to my area. Current expectations set at 140-160k. Reasonable?

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?
