Like Birkins? It's usually the very expensive and rare bags that could potentially increase in value. Problem is, one spill/stain/accident and there goes 10s of thousands of dollars. Not worth the risk imo. If you buy an expensive accessory, plan on it being yours forever
Second this! I feel like this might also limit you getting your value because you won't use it as much in the fear or something happening to it. Personally I feel like if I buy something, I should be able to use it really well for really long
Yes it’s true. People who don’t know the market will belittle you about it though. That being said, I wouldn’t get one as an investment vehicle. It’s just an added perk.

Don’t be so quick to judge an area you don’t understand well.
That said, one does need specialized knowledge in these alternative illiquid collectibles to make good returns.
Some bags hold their value. Some models of classic Chanel and Hermes can even be sold for a profit after a number of years. But I think this is a risky area and you have to do your research and know your market. I'd personally always prefer to buy quality and take good care of it, and if my tastes change I can try to resell. But I'm not yet in the resale for profit space.
I haven’t seen this. Why would anyone buy a gently used hand bag at the same cost as a new one

BCG: surprisingly, some have - for 30+ years.
Of course they’re not easy to get your hands on. Like art, limited sneakers, etc.
It depended on the designer, that’s usually true on really high end bags. But I do believe if you’re willing to have fewer items buying designer things can make you buy stuff much less often, but easy to fall in the trap of buying designer and buying the amount of stuff all the time.
Only some very high end designers actually hold their value. You can save money buy buying a few quality items that last instead of a ton of low quality items that need to be replaced quickly. But if you buy a ton of expensive quality items then you probably won’t save money
This is 100% my philosophy too so I get it lol
Thanks everyone! Yes, I agree with all of you! It wouldn’t be a investment per se but more so in the sense I can use it/enjoy and if I ever need/want to sell I can get a good amount of my money back :)
I think this too. Not an investment, but the depreciation is much less then non designer. The more iconic the better. People will still pay 2/3 the price of a new purse for used. When I buy second hand, I stay away from people selling for 50% or more than MSRP, unless it’s designer.
I applied this thinking to a Cartier ring I want. It’s $3500, but I’m sure I can resell it for $2800 when the time comes.

The same can be said for Rolexes and transferable machine guns, but I agree with D1 — that’s just an extra perk of having one and doesn’t make it a real investment vehicle.
Yes, people with so much money that dropping $25k on a bag isn’t a big deal. There are lots of alternative investments that are relatively illiquid and probably not worth getting into unless you have nowhere else to put your money. Art, cars, wine, watches, Napoleonica, etc.
