Is this layoff?Amdocs

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

I had a similar experience. I had to take a day off work for a cancer biopsy and I was low key relieved to have a day off. Then I got laid off. It was definitely terrible but I told myself that if I felt relieved to have a day off for such difficult personal circumstances, maybe something about the job was not right. I approached my future jobs with a very different mindset.
Doing much better, thank you. My lesson learned at that time was to not emotionally attach myself to any job or company. Subsequent layoffs were much easier to process emotionally 😂
Honestly, that doesn’t sound odd at all. I totally get it. Sometimes a forced break is the only way to realize how much you needed one. Job searching is stressful, but going into it with a clearer head can make a huge difference. Are you exploring anything new, or sticking to the same field?

That's exactly how it feels, a forced break! But you are right it definitely makes it possible for a clearer head/perspective. I am trying to stay in my general field, but am also trying to stay open-minded about where I land. What about you?
That makes a lot of sense. And I can totally relate to it. When I was laid off it felt crushing. But within a few days I realized that my sense of time had changed so much because of the job pressures. I was always in a hurry and not really enjoying anything in the moment. It's hard to describe, but it has made me realize that I don't want to wind up in that kind of situation again.

Yes! The perspective shift that comes with it really makes you slow down and realize how much of life you were really missing out on because of the job.
