It took 9 months for the right fit as a third year coming from midlaw. Got my first offer 4 months in, turned it down. I did 6 screeners, 4 callback invites total: 2 offers, 1 rejection, 1 I pulled out of. I'm really happy at my current firm!
Coach
This is just my personal impression, but the market seems really choppy right now. Firms may be sitting on dry powder to bring in new talent, but slower to pull the trigger unless they are 110% confident the work will be there to support a need or they are backfilling for another person who left. With the economy and geopolitical events being what they are, there is a natural level of cautiousness right now. Keep persisting and the right opportunity will come eventually!
7 months. Months 1-3 was just scoping out the market and finding the right recruiter. Months 4-6 were applications and interviews. Month 7 was offer/accept and notice.
9 months to find the right fit
That makes me feel a lot better! All the emails we get everyday from recruiters makes it feel like I should have so many options.
Patent lit midlevel— took me like a month (from application to accepting an offer) at the end of 2025. But I think patent lit is almost always busy.
Mentor
It took me 2 months to get an offer.
What practice area and what class level? It could be the market or you could need a better recruiter.
It’s the market, sorry
Took me over a year from one BL litigation firm to another but I changed from a speciality practice group to general commercial litigation.
