Money market funds
If you’re married and have a joint then $500k is insured. With the bank failures last year I wouldn’t keep more than insured in one bank.
Marcus has a great online high-yield variable savings account. Use my referral link to get 1% more for 3 months. 4.5% today, so 5.5% with this link:

Deposit is LESS than the FDIC limit per account - you need to leave enough room for your interest payments to be insured - you do not want to move money around if you will getting a new mortgage.
Second best place to park your deposit money is a good credit union with a high-yield savings accounts.
FDIC (banks) & NCUA (credit unions) insure up to $250,000 per depositor, per institution, and per ownership category. So a joint account would be $500K - $250K each person.
