Good
I’m glad someone is finally putting our younger generation first. Great day for America
Can you explain D1? Most people above said that the reason for hiring H1Bs instead of locals is because their local companies can pay H1Bs less for the same type of work. That’s what I meant with salary arbitrage. Sorry if it was an improper use of those words so here it is in more detail.
There's about 400 threads already full of thoughts.

OP slept in today.
This will accelerate offshoring projects and take more projects off American soil than result in hiring.Businesses are here to do business not cater to populist thoughts, they will shift headquarters to any other place in the world to avoid the taxes and offshore.
Exactly this^. At EY, I have also noticed the offshore talent pool is getting better over the past few years because we have been training them for a while now.

H1-B Saturday
No one has helped me understand how this helps Americans. They will just pay these people to work from their home countries, and save even more not having to deal with a visa.
H1B or not… whatever side you’re on, you can’t deny that there is clearly a rise in racism/xenophobia towards a particular race of people.
Should we also be concerned for the group that is being put in the back of the ICE vans or just by the group that is being “criticized”?
Canada is happy! Come on over folks. We will take the talent and tax dollars.
Because the Canada needs more immigration.
To be clear:
1.) This is NOT an annual fee. It’s a one-time fee that applies only to the petition.
2.) Those who already hold H-1B visas and are currently outside of the country right now will NOT be charged $100,000 to re-enter.
H-1B visa holders can leave and re-enter the country to the same extent as they normally would; whatever ability they have to do that is not impacted by yesterday’s proclamation.
3.) This applies only to new visas, not renewals, and not current visa holders.
It will first apply in the next upcoming lottery cycle.

The pendulum will swing back.
Too late, OP. Lazy as usual. This is why we need H1B.
This is fantastic news for the United Kingdom.

Overall....good. Maybe very very very good. We will see.
from what i understand, it will impact all H1s. What I heard was salary checks will be done to ensure the jobs are commensurate with the going rate when its time for renewal (not the H1 rate)... whatever that is.. This means at some point, companies will need to justify paying H1s less.. Companies arent going to all of a sudden, double salaries.. There will be carnage regardless.. this impacts ALL H1bs, whether via initial petition or renewal
