Isn’t this a Kirkland group? lol. You might want to be more generic in what you call what you want to do. Some special situations work has you do some of what you do in M&A. Better to retool when you’re junior.

“Silly goose” 🤣
Personally, I think it’s the worst and stay away from it - too many cooks in the kitchen, chaos ALL THE TIME, heightened sensitivities and bad personalities, everything is always urgent and the deal takes priority, and there’s less paper more process.
THAT SAID, the people who enjoy doing it say that it itches that part of their brain, particularly after getting bored of doing regular, traditional M&A. It’s called special situations because these are truly bespoke deals and even if you have a rough idea of how to do the deal, thinking and working through all the considerations is a fun puzzle to some. As the M&A attorney on it, you’ll work very closely with your finance colleagues, and sometimes securities and restructuring colleagues as well.
I don’t know about exit opps, but know of at least one or two persons who went in-house and still did M&A work.
