Thoughts on the importance of sticking to your first job out of college for at least couple years to improve your resume as opposed to quitting after a year if you don’t like the job? Do you think it makes more sense to stick with it to show reliability or to start looking to for something else?

Great question! There is a simple rule to working these days: If the company is good and helps you grow stay there. If it makes you uncomfortable in any way- move on. It doesnt make any sense if you are unhappy lets say in company A but just to build your profile you stay there for a couple of years and lose your sanity. You should rather find another company and use that position to highlight better achievements in your profile

If you’ve already reached the limit of growth within the company, it is best to find something else that you enjoy and can continue to grow professionally, and to learn other aspects of architecture.

I have a VC/GE interview coming up (phone screen) and personally don’t know much about the space , it’s just an area that has always seemed interesting.

Does anyone have Recommendations on how to get up to speed/good questions to ask during the phone screen?

I would assume the first call will be pretty standard to any other company, but just want to be prepared.

It is absolutely insane to me how recruiter ghosting is acceptable in the world of working professionals.

I don’t care how busy they are. They seem to respond really promptly to all of my emails, but the second I am no longer of use to them, they’re too busy to fire off a ten word email.

Sending one more email letting me know that I’m not being considered for a position does not take long.

And after I took time out of my day to interview, it is the absolute least they can do.

Love my current IC role and manager, get to work on strategic transactions and closer to the business. If my goal is head of corp legal one day, should I suck it up and go for it? Thnx!

I interviewed for KPMG on 11/15 for a Senior role and the HR emailed me on 11/16 that everyone liked me but they think I should be hired as an Experienced Associate. I had a call with the HR on 11/17 wherein we discussed about my salary expectations and the HR said he will get back in a day. It’s been more than 10 days and multiple follow ups but still no response. I don’t think I was rude while talking to the HR, I just told my current salary and asked for min. that no. Did i miss the chance ?

Hello!
Interested in knowing salaries of Architectural Designers at AEC firms, and the change in compensation upon licensure in the USA (early career/ closer to graduation). Any bonuses or promotions upon being a licensed Architect?

My younger brother is graduating in December with an AS in architectural engineering. He's in the process of interviewing; does anyone know a guesstimate salary range for an entry level estimator in the South? He's hoping for 45k min but also doesn't want to give too low/too high in interviews

I’d to get a job in a small architecture firm or work for a developer to help build up my network. For the past 6 years I’ve taught high school architecture and engineering and done real estate on the side. I have an industrial design degree and tremendous construction and real estate sales knowledge. I also started architecture school but stupidly switched to industrial design. I don’t want to go back to school for architecture. Ultimately, I want to own my own company developing real estate.

Do any RA’s or PE’s on here sign and seal for their company? My firm is trying to bestow these responsibilities on us and I’m holding out for an increase in comp. This responsibility was not originally in my job description. Additionally I am the only one with my job title being required to do this. Everyone else that will be signing have a more senior role then me. Any feedback is appreciated.

I’m a designer in the planning/landscape architecture dept. of a CE firm. Extremely frustrated that after 4+ years and multiple asks, I’m not getting the in-field construction experience I’ve asked for. I know that my designs could be better if I could see how things are actually built but I get slapped in the face with “I need you in the office designing/drafting” or “there’s no budget to have you go out” and then sends an intern to inspect instead. I’m 5 yrs out of college. Any advice?
