What’s worse is you see them posting on LinkedIn afterwards.
Even better when they are casting an even wider net for the opening they ghosted you on
Amen
Name and shame
The world is small. They almost always come back. When they do - you’ll have found a better job already 🙂 and you can put them on your list of asshole recruiters to never work with again. There’s plenty of good ones out there
I stopped reaching out to random recruiters I didn't already have relationships with and focused on other director level folks..much better experience.
Chief
On the list of most hated jobs I rank them below advertising. Not even worth the breath to cuss them or keep them in my mind.
The good news: it's never been easier to apply for jobs, what with all the portals and multiple platforms listing the same roles.
The bad news: it's never been easier to apply for jobs. I suspect that the ease of applying because of tech advances is pushing a TSUNAMI of resumes to employers. There aren't enough recruiters to fulfill the demand these companies have for talent. It's a vicious cycle.
I had one instance in which I got a status faster on a portal then I did from the recruiter. So that was good. But in general, technology hasn't done much to improve the ghosting situation.
I just had this happens to me. Went in for an in-person interview (2nd interview in process) was told they would reach out to schedule my next one (giving me the impression I moved ahead in the process) only to see them announce a new hire for the very role I was going for on LinkedIn two days later. I followed up to see if I’d there was still an opening (just in case) and the recruiter went MIA on me. I was extremely excited at the opportunity of working for an agency “wanting to disrupt the industry” but this just left such a bad taste in my mouth and just proves it was all bull. Such a lack of respect for our time and energy.
I’m sorry this happened to you. Sounds like a lucky escape
At my last job, I ran initial interviews and was “in charge” of letting people know if they have a second interview or not (meaning someone else told me to shoot them an email or not). The person who should have made a decision about hiring this person made me strong this poor guy along for WEEKS only to tell me “we’re not going to hire him”. The poor guy was so enthusiastic about the position :( if you already know you don’t want to hire someone just tell them so they can move on!!!
Literally. I had about 12 interviews the past couple weeks and have heard back from about 3.
It’s not just recruiters ghosting, it’s also the hiring entities/managers. The truth is that people don’t like to give bad news. It’s policy at my shop to return feedback/news on the same day of the interview. Good or bad. The pace of things (relationships) has become so fast that we’re starting to skip crucial steps that make us good people. We all need to work towards better processes.
