You don’t get access to Ritz club lounges based on any level of Marriott status, so that’s irrelevant. If all the facilities are open, I don’t think you’ll have any luck negotiating it, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. If some of the things they claim the fee pays for are status benefits (like internet or fitness center access), you could ask for a discount or item substitution based on that. SPG required properties to provide an “alternative amenity” if resort or destination fees included amenities that elite members were already entitled to, but I don’t believe Marriott has continued/expanded that policy.
WiFi yeah. The comments were taking about club access
Ask nicely? That usually works for me
I always get resort fees waived. I just make a bit of a fuss about something that doesn’t meet your expectations (just don’t be a Karen!). Usually the AC turns off in the middle of the night and I end up in a puddle of sweat. I just share my experience with the front desk upon check out and kindly ask them to waive all resort fees for the inconvenience. Give it a try.
Don't be a Karen *proceeds to tell you how they've acted like a Karen*
I don’t have tips but hope you have a great time! I love the Virgin Islands 🌴
You booked a hotel knowingly with a resort fee, and per your note resort fee items are unaffected. I like free stuff too, but I’m not following what or why they owe you.
Chief
It’s not that they’re “unaffected” it’s that some things in the resort fee are supposed to be free as part of Ambassador benefit. For example, I staid at the Adolphus in Dallas that had a resort fee for bottled water, coffee maker in the room, WiFi, and some ondemand fitness clases monitor in their gym. It was like $20 but outside of the fitness monitor everything should have been included as either a brand amenity or my status. Marriott says that properties must have a replacement amenities for things included in the resort fee that I should have received as part of my loyalty amenity. This hotel just waived the fee after a little back and forth.
No suggestions but I used to live there if you want any recommendations DM me
Talk to your ambassador. If in points, some programs waive it (Hyatt?) but if the things the amenities cover are closed or included in status (pools, towel service, club, internet, etc.) then they violate the legal requirement to provide the value for the fees. It’s been a while since I read what the rule is, but I think they have to show value.
I bet these kinds of fee waivers will be much harder to get now - given Marriott/hotels so strapped for cash
