To North Carolina math teachers: I just had a transfer student from Monroe, NC who was in Foundations of North Carolina Math 1. Where can I find the standards to see what that includes? I teach Algebra. The student showed on my roster Thursday and I have not met this student yet. Thanks for all info.

NC DPI website has the state standards for every grade. Unpacking the standards supplement will provide you all the examples of material the student has probably worked with. I despise these standards but NC Math1 is a combo of Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics. I think that's it's basic sum up. I haven't taught Math 1 for NC in a hot minute though.

I would email the other school and ask if they have a curriculum map they could send. We teach Math 1, 2, and 3 at my high school, and we sometimes get requests for that. I much prefer the integrated curriculum, but the name doesn’t tell you much about what is being taught.

You'd think but last I truly knew 100% it was 2017 and when teachers in the system were emailed about students they gave a brief summary of the student themselves and slapped the NCDPI link to their content in the email.

If the student just transfered, I would ask the student to show you his/her notes. Even if you do get a hold of the standards, you can not figure out what was covered. You can also email the teacher to send you the pacing guide from beginning of the school year until now.
I myself taught Math II and III and I truly enjoyed it.

What would u do in this "hypothetical" scenario.
1. Student gets 95 percentile on standardized tests in 1st grade.
2. 2nd gr teacher, capable and flexible but a little old school.
3. Parent, from foreign country, wants us to teach 2 years ahead of where student is at in math and reading in case they have to return to other country.
4. District's old standard for acceleration is at the 97th+ percentile and other students are much more"advanced".
5. Parent wants detailed steps for teacher's plan

Does anyone know a great 7th grade math workbook? Our school system does not buy the students books. I’ve taught 6th grade math for 20 years and have made all my notes, worksheets and and examples, but I’ve been assigned a seventh grade math class and don’t have enough time to get all of that ready. I feel like I’ve spent so much money on Amazon and TPT but it never ends up being what I want. It’s usually too easy. I would be grateful for any ideas, suggestions or actual workbooks names. Thanks.

I’m teaching summer school at a high school, and the co-principals have asked me to focus on only 2 to 3 chapters worth (what they are calling “2-3 standards” in the eight days of summer semesters. However, they are also asking me to give kids the midterm and/or final at the end of each period, which covers 4-5 chapters each semester. My question is this: “Is it legal by California Ed code for the administration to ask me to teach less than each entire semester, yet test each whole semester?”

I finally was able to convince my principal that we need a consistent math intervention at the MS level (grades 5-8). (Right now, we are just "doing our own thing," which isn't helping students progress much.) Does anyone have any suggestions? It would be beneficial to have some sort of progress monitoring tool as part of the program, if possible. Our classes run roughly 55 minutes (which is too long for an intervention, in my humble opinion).

Thanks for any advice.
