I was hired as an Administrative Assistant for a small company near my home. I was grateful for that location and the opportunity, until I was told that I was the 4th woman in that job in 5 months. Red Flag for sure! The Project Manager lady told me details about the previous three, another Red Flag, and all about her recent Divorce, Weightloss issues and the Head Meds she was taking.. Red, Red, Red.. The learning curve was very steep using Websites I was unfamiliar with and I took a lot of notes the first few weeks. Then she forbade me from using them. Still I tried really hard to rise above all this, as everyone knows how much fun job hunting is. But she let me go after 8 weeks, with no reason given. I was devastated. Now I think I actually dodged a bullet! Some ‘great jobs’ are not really so great and I’m proud of you for standing up for yourself! Best of luck to all of us seeking employment!
Best of luck to you too. I am sorry you went through that bad experience at work.
I understand that. Taking on too much outside of your role just piles on the workload. Going above and beyond isn’t always rewarded. Can just as easily be taken advantage of.
You got this girl! I am proud to hear you did that, saying “yes” to everything doesn’t build value, sometimes the power move is a well-placed “no.” I agree with you.
Totally proud of you for doing this! I always advocate for necessary "no's". Sometimes we just have to say no
Way to go. Set those boundaries so you don't keep getting piled on more stuff without proper pay.
I’ll have a meeting with my supervisor at his request to better understand my opinion, as he has never experienced a admin refusing to support. This seem like a make it or break it meeting. I am frustrated and uneasy…and if i stand up for myself, even with the consequence of termination, I would have overcome. I wish i had more support…where’s the admin union?!?
Am I in trouble for something? But if this is a man ,I have no worries,I can handle my own. But if this is a woman,I hope I didn't do anything wrong towards you
I hope that you are doing well
He didn’t even show up today. I consulted a couple friends and some trusted council. I came up with 4 slides including graphics that demonstrate my job description, compared to my actual task, compared to what’s being requested of me now. -noting some goodwill like shopping sales vs full price and negotiating for better rates with vendors…
Showed up to show out…and he didn’t even show up…I assumed as much but wanted to be prepared. Any way, exhibits A - D highlight how the new tasks are out of my scope and if you want me to do them…train me! Don’t expect me to train myself so you don’t have to pay me more…because technically I don’t have those updated credentials…you want me to figure out how to do it all…I can, through YouTube or any internet research, but I want the credit! The compensation that is deserved with evolving skills!
